In Episode 2, AI & The Future of Design, by Design Studio UI/UX, hosts Ishika and Naushina raise an important question: What happens to design when AI becomes smarter, calmer, and almost too good at knowing what we want?
A thought that crossed every founder's or designer's mind.
But before that, let's take you all to the beginning- how design is becoming more human, emotional, and intuitive. Click here for Episode 1.
This episode explores how AI is helping designers rethink UI and UX, and create interfaces that quietly adapt to real people.
Key highlights:
- The journey from “giving options” to “giving answers,”
- Why minimal interfaces today feel more immersive,
- How eCommerce experiences differ across Amazon, Nykaa, and Myntra,
Whether you’re a designer or a business owner building digital products, or just curious about where UX is heading, you will learn a lot in this episode.
Ishika:
Hello everyone, and welcome back to Design Story. If you are a new listener, we are happy to have you with us. And if you are a returning listener, welcome back.
Naushina:
It feels really good to be back, with another episode. Today we will discuss a topic that both of us were geeking about- AI, simplicity, and the new rules of experience design.
Ishika:
But before we jump right in, here is a quick recap from Episode 1. In the previous episode, we talked about how design is becoming a storyteller, personalized and human-centric.
Naushina:
So, we basically discussed empathetic functionality, and how users should feel seen. If you want to hear the full episode, we will link it below, but for now, let’s move forward with today’s topic.
Ishika:
So yesterday, I was scrolling through my Amazon feed and it instantly showed an outfit I was thinking about.
I was like- Is AI listening?!
At this point, I think my phone knows me better than anyone else.
Naushina:
Right, I have observed that too, AI is silently becoming smarter to understand our preferences.
Ishika:
Right. As a design enthusiast myself, it made me realize something —
“Modern design is shifting, from just giving options to becoming a pro at giving answers.”
Ishika:
So, Naushina, “How do you think AI is shaping modern UI/IUX and where do you see it in the next 5 years?”
Naushina:
Well, if I say it poetically, AI is becoming the stage, and designing, its star performer.
Now we have screens that adapt, and content that rearranges itself, and intuitive dashboards that learn from users, just like the dashboards developed by Design Studio UI/UX.
Ishika:
And have you noticed, the interfaces are becoming much calmer, when AI is becoming smarter.
Naushina:
I was coming to this point, I have seen that now people prefer simple UI, and even I myself prefer it from a design POV.
Naushina:
“But let’s hear from you: In what ways do you feel AI is simplifying both UI and UX?”
Ishika:
I feel that AI has played a significant role in removing friction. Instead of just giving options, now these apps provide direction.
Naushina:
“Exactly, my point, Smart design means simple design.”
Ishika:
Speaking of simplicity — I am loving the clean, calm look of these apps.
It’s like every app has suddenly gone through a digital detox.
Naushina:
We used to talk about minimalism a lot, but many took it in a different direction. Now I feel it is finally being understood the right way.
Ishika:
True, but “Why do you think minimal design is still creating an immersive effect?”
Naushina:
Because it was never our goal to overwhelm users.
We need a design that offers clarity and speaks their emotion, and minimalism is the answer.
Ishika:
Of course. And at Design Studio UI/UX, we don’t believe, minimal means empty. It means putting exactly what is needed
Now, before we are on air, you were telling me about a meeting? What was it about?
Naushina:
Yes, You know I was on a discovery call with a founder, and he just told me,
“Can’t we just copy Amazon’s layout?”
And I said, “Your customers don’t shop like Amazon customers.”
Ishika:
Exactly! Every eCommerce website is different, and the UX must serve the business model.
Naushina:
That’s the ticket. UI/UX should be designed around the business instead of being generic.
Ishika:
I think this needs more discussion. So let’s use the UX of Amazon, Nykaa, and Myntra.
Naushina:
These three websites are completely different!
Amazon → is more decision-heavy
Nykaa → capitalizes on user’s emotion to guide them to relevant products
Myntra → helps in discovering inspiring outfits, looks, and inspiration
Ishika:
Yes, that is my point. Even if they are from the same industry, they serve different psychology. We cannot create a one-trick template for it.
Ishika:
AND I feel that people don’t realize the importance of adding the right feature.
It’s not like you are adding a sticker.
There is a reason behind every CTA button.
Naushina:
I would even say that “A feature isn’t a button — it’s technology wearing a button as a disguise.”
Ishika:
Wait, hang on, “So you are saying that features are not just UI elements?”
Naushina:
Take Google Search — one small button, but powered by AI, ranking systems, crawling, personalization…
You know the rest.
Ishika:
Or you know, Add to Cart — dozens of processes behind one click.
Naushina:
I think all this conversation rounds up to this: With all this change, designers need a new mindset.
Ishika:
Absolutely. Okay, now let’s have a rapid fire question. If I ask “What should UI/UX designers focus on now, in the era of AI?, what would be your answer in 3 lines.
Naushina:
Empathy.
AI-powered logic.
Designers bring feeling, trust, clarity.
Ishika:
At Design Studio UI/UX, we’ve seen this firsthand —
And for people who are still panicking about being replaced “AI won’t replace designers but AI will definitely replace confusing design.”
Naushina:
And that’s a wrap on AI and the Future of Design— another episode of Design Story.
Ishika:
Thank you for listening.
Naushina:
We’ll see you in the next one…
same time, same energy…
Both:
Stay curious, stay creative, and as always — stay cool.
